Sweden

Sweden is a consistently high performer on Best Countries and has climbed three places this year to the bronze-medal position.

Impressions of Sweden focus on its perceived high Quality of Life, a metric on which Sweden now leads the world, having overtaken neighbouring Denmark to claim top spot. Nations known for their Quality of Life are seen as stable and safe societies in which individuals can develop and prosper. There tends to be a good job market, and economic and political stability; these countries are family-friendly and have good income equality. Sweden excels in all of these areas, and is seen as having the best public health and education systems in the world.

The world views Sweden as having a very strong sense of Social Purpose (ranking second only to Finland this year). It leads the world on perceptions of commitment to social justice. It is seen as caring deeply about human rights and animal rights, and is considered a highly adaptable, happy and progressive place that offers equality. The country is widely seen as being Open for Business, with transparent business practices, a well-developed legal system, and a skilled workforce. This combination of strengths across business- and lifestyle-related metrics is what drives Sweden up the ranking this year.
